Laboratory Services Division is the largest technical division of Sri Lanka Standards Institution where seventy one employees are working in six laboratories i.e. Chemical, Electrical, Food, Materials, Microbiology and Textile. The technical staff of the laboratory services division comprises of twenty five graduate officers with post graduate qualifications and twenty six technical officers. These staff members are specialized in their respective subject areas and highly competent. Each laboratory is headed by an Assistant Director.

The modern testing facilities available in the laboratory division facilitate testing of many products and materials according to national and/or international standards. ISO/IEC 17025 based laboratory management system is implemented within the laboratory services division and the Chemical, Food, Materials and Microbiology laboratories are accredited for certain tests by Swedish Accreditation Board (SWEDAC) of Sweden. In addition to that the Chemical, Food and Microbiology laboratories are accredited by Sri Lanka Accreditation Board (SLAB). Accreditation status ensures the competence of laboratories to generate reliable and technical valid test results.The Laboratory Services Division is functioning under the guidance and directions of the Director (laboratory).

Laboratory Quality Assurance

An Assistant Director has been assigned to establish and maintenance of Laboratory Quality Management System in accordance with ISO 17025 Laboratory Accreditation and Laboratory Quality Management System of the Laboratory Services Division to ensure reliable and accurate testing services are provided to the customers.

This includes providing of training and guidance of laboratory staff on Laboratory Accreditation and Laboratory Quality Management System as per ISO 17025.Assistant Director assigned for Laboratory accreditation liaises with Swedish Accreditation Board for Conformity Assessment (SWEDAC) www.swedac.se & Sri Lanka Accreditation Board For Conformity Assessment (SLAB) www.slab.lk to maintain accreditation granted as per ISO 17025:2005 to the respective Laboratories.
